At HP, corporate strategy plays a critical role in shaping business thinking. The Market Analysis and Planning (MAP) Team under the Corporate Strategy Office delivers an independent perspective on market trends that enables key planning and investment decisions. The successful candidate will work closely with the market sizing teams for Printing and Personal Systems to generate analytical models and simulations that support the market outlook for categories across the PC, Tablet, Smartphone, Laser and Ink Printer market landscape.  The role supports the sizing teams by organizing modeling activities and working both independently and collaboratively to conceive, develop and refine models using advanced analytical tools and techniques that may include statistical model development, descriptive and predictive analytics, time series, data mining, pattern identification, segmentation, regression, simulation and optimization. It will require the application of advanced principles, theories and concepts to the design and development of solutions to complex business problems enabling the team to consistently deliver high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support macroeconomic, statistical and market analyses for the sizing teams
  • Gather, understand and analyze macroeconomic and technology industry data
  • Understand key indicators which correlate with the business and drive market projections
  • Develop analysis to help the business read early warning signs that signal business change
  • Create management insights from analysis of macroeconomic, statistical and market data
  • Manage ad-hoc projects assessing business impacts of market trends and industry shifts

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in some or all of the following: multivariate regression, logistic regression, decision tree, optimization, discrete event simulation, Monte Carlo simulation, predictive modeling, pattern identification, demand sensing, time series forecasting, and segmentation
  • Accomplished in statistical analysis environments such as R, Forecast Pro and/or other forecasting tools
  • Skilled in manipulating, cleansing, aggregating, compiling and analyzing data
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project)
  • Detailed, meticulous and quality orientated
  • Proactive, self-starter and self-motivated
  • Proven ability to operate across functions, sites and cultures
  • Willingness to work variable hours to accommodate global responsibility
  • Work effectively within a team environment and independently
  • Work in a fast moving environment with strict deadlines and constraints
  • Ability to prioritize and concurrently manage multiple objectives
  • Ability to develop and present executive level presentations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Familiarity with the printing and personal systems businesses – nice to have

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Engineering or related field
  • Advanced university degree (e.g., Masters of Science, Business Administration) preferred
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in market research, strategy, analytics or applied research
